Measure usable space
Record desk width and depth, then measure the area taken by your keyboard, mouse and display base. Keep the space you actually use clear before adding storage. This guide is a planning framework, not a tested product ranking.
Keep daily items within reach
Make a short list of the items you use every day. Put less frequently used supplies somewhere else if possible. Buy an organizer only after you know what needs to fit inside it.
Compare vertical and horizontal storage
Vertical storage can reduce the footprint of papers or accessories, but it needs height clearance and stability. A shallow tray keeps small items accessible but still occupies desk area. Measure both the item and its intended location.
Consider the display footprint
A riser uses desk space and may offer storage underneath. An arm needs a compatible mounting point and clearance. Neither is a universal solution. Use the monitor-arm fit checklist before considering a mount.
Make one change at a time
Try a layout with the items you already own. After a few work sessions, note what is still inconvenient. Use those observations to choose the dimensions and type of organizer, rather than buying a matching set by default.
