Start with the monitor
Find the model number and its manufacturer’s mounting instructions. Record the weight without the original stand and the VESA mounting pattern. Compare both with the exact arm model you intend to buy; screen size alone does not establish compatibility.
Measure the mounting point
Measure the desktop where the clamp will sit, rather than at the front edge. Look underneath for drawers, frames, bevels or cable trays. Compare those measurements with the clamp instructions. A listed thickness limit does not confirm that every desk material is suitable.
Check the surface and structure
Follow the desk and arm manufacturers’ guidance on suitable materials. Do not assume a thin, hollow or glass top is safe for clamping. If compatibility is unclear, ask the manufacturer rather than improvising reinforcement.
Allow room behind the screen
Measure the distance between your desk and the wall. Consider the arm’s folded position, cable connections and the space needed to move the display. A long extension specification does not tell you how compactly an arm folds.
Choose the adjustment you need
A mostly fixed setup and a frequently repositioned screen have different needs. Compare the adjustment mechanism, not just the brand. Our VIVO comparison explains two documented mechanisms without claiming hands-on results.
